SEOUL, South Korea and Cupertino, Calif., March 11, 2013 — MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (“MagnaChip”) (NYSE: MX), a Korea-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, today announced that it has introduced a step-down DC/DC converter (model: MAP7153) designed to improve smartphone power amplifier performance and efficiency.

The MAP7153 optimizes power efficiency and extends smartphone battery life by converting output voltage into bypass or high voltage while operating in high power mode, or into low voltage while in low power mode.

The MAP7153 features fast transition time, excellent line and load regulation, and minimum footprint as a result of its reduced die size and small 1.32mm x 1.27mm WLCSP package. Two switching frequencies are also selectable in the MAP7153. A 3MHz option provides improved efficiency while a 6 MHz option saves printed circuit board space by utilizing smaller inductors.

“Customers are demanding increased performance and power efficiency from their smartphones,” said H.K. Kim, EVP and General Manager of MagnaChip’s Display and Power Solutions Divisions. “By incorporating our MAP7153 into their designs, smartphone manufacturers can continue to provide new and improved products that significantly enhance energy efficiency and battery capacity in the fast growing smartphone market.”

SEOUL, South Korea and CUPERTINO, Calif., October 15, 2012 — MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (“MagnaChip Semiconductor”) (NYSE: MX), a Korea-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, today announced the launch of a new power factor correction “PFC” controller (model: MAP8800) that has been optimized for use in LCD TV applications.

The PFC controller plays an important role in increasing the power efficiency of LCD TVs by reducing power consumption up to 95% as it maintains constant current flows during the AC to DC conversion process.

The MAP8800 uses a boost method that functions in CRM (Critical Conduction Mode) that is beneficial not only for LCD TVs, but also for general power supply applications and other lighting devices.

The MAP8800 provides features such as a maximum frequency limiting function to prevent damage to the TV power supply and a DSP (Diode Short Protection) that protects the TV when a boost diode is shorted. Additionally, the MAP8800 provides overvoltage and overcurrent protection as well as feedback protection when the feedback loop is shorted.

“The MAP8800 is an optimum product designed to improve the energy efficiency and power supply stability of LCD TVs,” said H.K. Kim, EVP and General Manager of MagnaChip’s Display and Power Solutions Division. “By consolidating multiple protection circuits within one device, the MAP8800 enables LCD TV manufacturers to design products capable of using fewer parts that can withstand a higher power factor resulting in lower product costs and improved stability performance.”

MagnaChip Launches New LED Lighting Driver Combining
High-Efficiency, High-Brightness with Low Heat Generation

SEOUL, South Korea and CUPERTINO, Calif., May 7, 2012 – MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (“MagnaChip”) (NYSE: MX), a Korea-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, launched a high efficiency, AC direct-drive 4W/8W LED lighting driver which doesn’t require a separate AC line converter circuit.

The advantage of using of an AC drive type is that it minimizes neighboring circuits. The introduction of our advanced LED lighting driver is a result of MagnaChip’s extensive high voltage process technical expertise. With PF higher than 0.95 and THD below 27%, energy savings is maximized in the entire lighting system and meets the high efficiency requirements demanded for consumer LED products.

The 4 watt LED product has a brightness equivalent to 30 watt incandescent light bulbs while the 8 watt LED product is equivalent to 60 watts. The usual heat generation problems found in LED lighting has been resolved through the use of an LGA package exhibiting excellent heat dissipation characteristics.

The LED lighting driver also has an embedded bridge diode to manage AC voltage and current and is available in both 110 and 220 voltages. MagnaChip plans to expand its product offering of AC direct drive types by releasing AC-DC and DC-AC conversion type LED lighting drivers.

“MagnaChip’s LED lighting driver products will help the customer achieve high-efficiency and high-brightness with low heat generation,” said HK Kim, EVP and General Manager of MagnaChip’s Display Solutions Division and Power Solutions Division. “This new approach to LED driver design will enable customers to maximize energy savings in their entire LED lighting system, thereby reducing their direct lighting costs.”
