MagnaChip Launches New LED Lighting Driver Combining
High-Efficiency, High-Brightness with Low Heat Generation

SEOUL, South Korea and CUPERTINO, Calif., May 7, 2012 – MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (“MagnaChip”) (NYSE: MX), a Korea-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, launched a high efficiency, AC direct-drive 4W/8W LED lighting driver which doesn’t require a separate AC line converter circuit.

The advantage of using of an AC drive type is that it minimizes neighboring circuits. The introduction of our advanced LED lighting driver is a result of MagnaChip’s extensive high voltage process technical expertise. With PF higher than 0.95 and THD below 27%, energy savings is maximized in the entire lighting system and meets the high efficiency requirements demanded for consumer LED products.

The 4 watt LED product has a brightness equivalent to 30 watt incandescent light bulbs while the 8 watt LED product is equivalent to 60 watts. The usual heat generation problems found in LED lighting has been resolved through the use of an LGA package exhibiting excellent heat dissipation characteristics.

The LED lighting driver also has an embedded bridge diode to manage AC voltage and current and is available in both 110 and 220 voltages. MagnaChip plans to expand its product offering of AC direct drive types by releasing AC-DC and DC-AC conversion type LED lighting drivers.

“MagnaChip’s LED lighting driver products will help the customer achieve high-efficiency and high-brightness with low heat generation,” said HK Kim, EVP and General Manager of MagnaChip’s Display Solutions Division and Power Solutions Division. “This new approach to LED driver design will enable customers to maximize energy savings in their entire LED lighting system, thereby reducing their direct lighting costs.”

SEOUL, South Korea and CUPERTINO, Calif., Jan. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (“MagnaChip”) (NYSE: MX), a Korea-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, and GMT (Global Mixed-mode Technology), a leading fabless provider of power solutions for mobile phone and PC applications, today announced that MagnaChip has ramped to mass production GMT’s power management IC (PMIC) products utilizing 0.35um BCD (Bipolar CMOS-DMOS) process technology.

MagnaChip and GMT have been engaged in the development of PMIC and LED Driver IC products using 0.35um 65V BCD process technology at MagnaChip’s manufacturing facility located in Cheongju, South Korea. MagnaChip has successfully completed the final qualification of PMIC products which have ramped to high-volume production, while the LED driver IC products are currently under development.

The PMIC manages multiple power levels for LCD TV and monitor applications. GMT’s PMIC incorporates a high-performance linear regulator, low-power charge-pump regulators, a high current operational amplifier and a logic-controlled gate-on pulse modulator to control the positive charge-pump output sequence and waveform. MagnaChip is uniquely positioned as a foundry provider to be able to offer the deep trench isolation technology for PMIC applications.

In addition to the PMIC, GMT’s LED Driver IC has the ability to drive up to 12 parallel strings of LEDs at a maximum of 120mA of current. It also provides a precision current balance function for each LED string. Additionally, the LED string voltages can be up to a maximum of 65V. This makes it very suitable to be used in main stream (40 inch ~ 55 inch) LED TV back light applications.

Namkyu Park, Vice President of MagnaChip’s Foundry Marketing commented, “We are very pleased to announce MagnaChip’s production ramp of GMT’s PMIC products using our 0.35um BCD process technology. The continued introduction of these robust PMIC solutions is a direct result of the combined expertise of MagnaChip’s manufacturing services and GMT’s design engineering. We will continue to develop highly differentiated and cost-effective BCD technology solutions to meet the increasing application specific needs of our foundry customers.”

RIVERSIDE, Calif. and SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 27, 2011 – MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (“MagnaChip”) (NYSE: MX), a Korea-based designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products, and Bourns, Inc. (“Bourns”), a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components announced today that MagnaChip has ramped to mass production all families of the Bourns® series of high-speed circuit protection devices (TBU® HSP) designed for a broad selection of Industrial, Consumer and Telecommunication applications.

TBU® HSP devices are constructed using MOSFET semiconductor technology. When placed in series in the system, the TBU® HSP device monitors the current flowing through the line. If the current exceeds a preset level, the TBU® HSP device triggers in less than 1 microsecond, providing an effective barrier to large, destructive voltages or currents during surge events, thereby protecting sensitive electronics. These devices are particularly popular in Telecommunication applications (such as Voice SLICs, xPON and GBEthernet), Industrial applications (such as RS485 interfaces, surveillance systems and avionics) and Consumer products applications (such as set top boxes and home gateways).

The TBU® HSP devices are custom designed and developed using Bourns’ proprietary technology fabricated by MagnaChip. MagnaChip successfully transferred two proprietary processes of Bourns needed to produce the TBU® HSP devices by closely working with Bourns’ engineering team. Both processes are currently in the production ramp phase.

TJ Lee, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MagnaChip’s Corporate and SMS Engineering, commented, “We are very pleased to have successfully transferred the Bourns processes to production. We also look forward to supporting their future engineering and manufacturing needs as a partner for our foundry services.”
